Life's a Beach (Show) - By Robert Isenberg

Summer is just around the corner, and millions of Americans -- young and old, sexy and supersexy -- will book all-inclusive trips to tropical beaches. Here they'll find flavored cocktails, crowds of bronzed sunbathers and complicated romances unfurling like a beach umbrella. But where to go? In which sandy cove should you sport that slick new swimsuit?

Take a cruise through the TV channels and you'll find a wealth of sun-belt options -- where a midwinter escape could lead to luxurious bungalows, steamy hookups and brushes with professional assassins. For decades, TV series have flaunted the finest vacation lands on the continent, from Florida to Cali to Polynesia. Here is just a smattering of what the coastlines have to offer: glamorous people and sinful delights that'll have you enwrapped in a Speedo-ed love triangle in no time. Surf's up!

'Hawaii Five-O'/CBS

Oahu ('Hawaii Five-0')

Aloha, and welcome to beautiful Hawaii, where the leis are sweet and hula dancing is a national pastime. But between luaus and beachfront drives, a certain danger lurks: mob bosses, murderers, kidnappers, drug dealers -- you name it -- not to mention the nefarious Wo Fat, a live-wire operative for the Chinese communists. But thanks to the Five-0 crack-team -- a unit of five detectives -- crime in Hawaii gets busted every week. Steve McGarrett (Jack Lord) is ever-ready to cuff some bad guys, bringing his deft intelligence and unwieldy dark suits to every crime scene. Hawaii is famous for its palm glades and volcanoes; thanks to McGarrett and company, the islands will always be safe from ultra-violent crime syndicates. Book 'em, Danno!

'The O.C.'/FOX

Newport Beach ('The O.C.')

Beautiful Orange County -- land of palatial houses, millionaire adolescents and complicated relationships. Outside, it's always sunny in Orange County. Inside, everyone seems tempest-tossed. Take Ryan Atwood (Benjamin McKenzie), a nice enough kid: He lives in Chino, he has a lot of friends, he may have fathered a child by accident, his friend Trey gets shot by a manic girlfriend, his car flies off a cliff, his girlfriend dies -- the usual high school angst, really. Don't let all that tomfoolery ruin a perfectly good vacation: There are plenty of parties, drinking binges and rampant shacking up to cover up Orange County's dank, sunless underbelly.

'Beverly Hills, 90210'/FOX

Beverly Hills Beach Club ('Beverly Hills, 90210')

Far from the smog and drive-bys of inner-city Los Angeles, Beverly Hills is a utopia for California teenagers -- especially teenagers who look like they're in their mid-20s. Stroll down the nearby beach, just past the sunny stucco mansions, and you'll meet all kinds of unbelievably wealthy new friends: Brandon Walsh (Jason Priestley), that rare breed of nice-guy heartthrob, and his smokin' twin sister, Brenda (Shannen Doherty). Just watch out, because little problems get really big here in Beverly Hills: Brandon has a problem with sports gambling, and Brenda had treatment for breast cancer. And, of course, David (Brian Austin Green) had his problem with crystal meth. And Dylan (Luke Perry), you know, married Antonia, whose father turned out to be a don, and the Mafia put out a hit on Dylan, but Antonia got offed by accident, and Dylan got all depressed, and then Dylan's father, who supposedly died in a car explosion, was suddenly alive, and ... well, that's Los Angeles for you: nothing but drama.
